GCSE Case Study 2024
Posted: 23rd August 2024A teenager who arrived in the UK six years ago speaking no English has today collected all top grades in his GCSEs.
George Jardan, 16, from Beckton, arrived in the UK from the Republic of Moldova and joined Royal Docks Academy.
Today, he collected two Grade 9 – including in English - one Grade 7 and seven Grade 8 after the summer’s exams.
He credits the school with lifting the “cloud and smoke” and providing him with a bright future.
He said: “These results are better than expected. It is a great day! What can I say?
“This school has provided me with support and extra classes which has given me the opportunity to go beyond. They did lots of preparation for us throughout the whole year. Even before the exams, they did a good job of keeping the stresses down; we had enough time to revise and all of the content was covered.
“We moved to the UK to continue our studies; we wanted a better future. I am really pleased we chose Royal Docks Academy. I did not speak any English when I arrived, but by socialising and speaking as much as possible I have got to this point, and by being open to correction. You should be open to correction as it is an opportunity to be better.
“A few years ago, my future looked like a lot of smoke and clouds. I did not know which steps to follow. Royal Docks Academy has shaped me and the steps I needed to take, and cleared away the smoke and clouds to achieve success.”
Having undergone a series of interviews and tests, George is off to Felsted School, in Essex, with a scholarship to study further maths, economics and history, with the ambition of working in finance in future.
He said: “This is a huge thing. All of the effort and time invested in me has gone to a good cause. I am going to Felsted with solid grades.
“I am feeling very pleased with myself; very happy. It is a fantastic feeling.
“I am very grateful. My teachers have been kind and supportive, even today on results day.”
