This is a qualification that enables students to explore the world, the issues it faces and their own place in it, and to help prepare them to succeed in their chosen pathway. Pupils will learn to communicate in a variety of ways, including extended writing and graphical forms. Research skills for field trips. Use new technologies such as GIS, to assist geographical investigation. The content of the specification is organised into three broad themes:
Theme 1: Changing Places - Changing Economies This theme focuses on urban and rural change and development at national and global levels
Theme 2: Changing Environments This theme looks at coastal and river landscapes, weather and climate change
Theme 3: Environmental Challenges This theme looks at how ecosystems function and how they are threatened
Assessment: There are three assessment components. They contribute different amounts to the overall grade.
Component one: Written Exam – Investigating Geographical Issues
Component two: Written Exam – Problem Solving Geography
Component three: Written Exam - Applied Fieldwork Study
